MEASURE A - TAX BILLBOARD ACT
WHWRA recommends voting “NO”
on the Billboard Tax Act on March 8th!
This initiative (Measure A) proposes to allow billboards and tall wall signs on Beverly Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, contrary to our City’s General Plan and Sunset Specific Plan. The initiative also includes deceptive language regarding taxation and misleading information regarding allocation of supposed tax revenue.

The “Billboard Tax” in Measure A is illegal under California law. The tax cannot be implemented, but what will be implemented are changes to the rules to allow huge supergraphic tall walls along Santa Monica and Beverly Boulevards without City approval, without environmental study and without public (i.e., neighborhood) input. The City Council majority has voted to oppose this initiative.

Historically, WHWRA has opposed billboards and tall walls on our adjacent commercial streets. We believed then, as we believe now, that permitting tall walls on Beverly Boulevard would have a negative effect on the character of the neighborhood and would set a dangerous precedent that could impact the entire city, where tall walls are not allowed. We believe that no changes have occurred to the surrounding area that would warrant a different position now. We find that opposition to Measure A is consistent with WHWRA’s position on billboards and tall walls.
